The second SYAR National Negotiation Competition was organised in collaboration with the Centre for Mediation and Conciliation, Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Presolv360 and Negotiation Academy. The competition featured 40 teams from law schools, colleges, and universities all over India. Crews from National Law Universities and public and private law schools that have received Bar Council of India accreditation, comprised these teams.
A training session was conducted to acquaint the novices as well as the experienced participants with the nuances that the negotiation process entails. The speaker, Mr. Thomas Valenti introduced the process of negotiation and had one on one interaction with the participants. He very skillfully explained how the opening statement of the Client and Counsel should be structed along with the worthy tactics and skills. He further delved into the topic of interest based negotiation and agenda setting. The participants also excitedly volunteered to make the session more smooth and interactive.
The Competition was divided into 5 negotiation rounds; Preliminary Round, Octa Finals, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and the Final Round. Mr. Tom Valenti, Mr. Andrew Miller QC, Mr. Anish Wadia, Ms. Mumtaz Bhalla and Ms. Bhumika Billa were the judges of the final round.
The team representing Government Law College Mumbai was declared as the Winners with Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar being the Runner-ups. The team from GLC, Mumbai consisted of Sheona Shenoy and Ruhaan Shah who received an internship opportunity with Centre for Mediation and Conciliation, Bangalore.
